Finding inspiration from the natural world, Cynthia Hartling’s visual language lies in the tactile and hidden, never knowing where she will end up beforehand. She uses color, shape and form as her subject matter in improvised movements of action and restraint, adding and removing paint, pouring, scraping, or wiping away in a restless desire to discover anew, leaving traces of tell-tale struggles along the way.
