On view at G2 Gallery are works from the artist’s Scenes series, which portray prosaic interiors and landscapes with ambiguous, vertiginous spaces inspired by the carefully staged photographs in glossy magazines – images of impossibly pristine houses, gardens, and pools. The works’ distorted angles and proportions evoke the momentary uneasiness we sometimes unexpectedly feel in familiar spaces – empty rooms and starkly beautiful exterior spaces that look as though someone might have just left – places where you may experience uneasy loneliness or enjoy peaceful solitude. Works in this series were initially influenced by children’s tempera paintings, which are typically colorful, flat, and simple.
